Research and Innovation Work Group – Primary NQT Mathematics Support 2020-2021

This project is designed to support Primary NQTs who have had a disrupted experience of the classroom due to COVID-19 lockdown and would benefit from support to develop into a more confident mathematics practitioner. It will focus on developing a deep understanding of teaching for mastery including the progression in the use of key representations across key stages using the DfE Primary National Curriculum Guidance 2020 and supporting NCETM materials.

WHO IS THIS FOR?

This programme is designed for NQTs/RQTs who would like to further develop their specialist knowledge for teaching mathematics.

WHAT IS INVOLVED?

The programme aims to be responsive to the needs of its participants as NQTs who are likely to have experienced restrictions in their teacher training programmes. The programme will focus on some key elements of teaching mathematics confidently and competently. This will enable participants to engage in consistent, reflective and coherent professional development in a mutually supportive way as well as providing opportunities for them to enhance the quality of teaching and learning in their schools.

Half day sessions online

Full day face to face – location TBC

COST

The Work Group is offered free to all state-funded secondary schools in England.

COVID-19 RECOVERY

The ongoing impact of the coronavirus outbreak and knock on effects on schools life remain uncertain. So, all Maths Hubs work will adapt to changing realities. There’s likely to be more live online collaboration, for example. In addition Work Groups content will address both schools recovery from coronavirus related disruption and the central maths subject matter of each project.
